Professional-assisted ITR filing: what a fair engagement looks like

Fixed price before you start, the computation shown before filing, and an acknowledgement number after — the three checkpoints that separate service from theatre.

Checkpoint 1 — the price is fixed before work starts

Complexity pricing is legitimate: capital gains, F&O, foreign assets genuinely cost more effort than a single Form 16. What is not legitimate is discovering the price at the final submission step, or a plan bought in July costing different amounts on different pages of the same website. A fair engagement states the price for YOUR case, in writing, before you upload a document.

Checkpoint 2 — you approve the computation before filing

The single best protection against wrong-form and wrong-figure filings (both documented at scale on complaint boards, including a wrong-form filing that cost a trader ₹17,000 in excess tax) is simple: the preparer shares the full computation — income heads, deductions, regime comparison, tax payable — and files only after you approve it. If your provider files first and shows later, they've optimised for their throughput, not your return.

Checkpoint 3 — the acknowledgement is yours

A filed return produces an acknowledgement (ITR-V) instantly. It should land where you can keep it, and e-verification should happen with you in the loop. 'We filed it' without an acknowledgement number means it may not be true — check the e-filing portal yourself; your login shows every return actually filed against your PAN.

If you want it handled

Every Finotrix service shows its complete price — professional fee + government fee — before you sign up, and you pay by milestone with filing proof on each one.
